Dappled sun tans

the brick road golden.

Each twist and turn of the courtyard

is familiar and comforting.

The sand-colored buildings

cup like gentle hands

around the road.

Roofs drip into porticoes,

windows covered with

awnings in the alleyways.

Umbrellas folded, chairs pushed in,

every shop window dark.

Tomorrow the morning sky will open up this

old, serendipitous place.
